Pulp Therapy for Kids in Rancho Cucamonga and Surrounding Areas

Gentle, tooth saving treatment that relieves pain and rescues badly decayed or injured baby teeth.

When decay or an injury reaches the soft inner nerve of a tooth, your child needs gentle care to save it and stop the pain. Pulp therapy, sometimes called a baby root canal, treats the affected nerve so your child can keep the tooth until it is naturally ready to go. At Sensory Smiles Children’s Dentistry, Dr. Sara El-Sherbini performs this care gently, in a calm, sensory friendly setting.

Why saving the tooth matters

Baby teeth do far more than fill a smile. They hold space for the adult teeth coming in behind them, they support healthy chewing and speech, and they guide your child’s mouth as it develops. Losing one too early can lead to crowding and other problems down the road.

When deep decay or an injury reaches the nerve, it can cause real pain and infection. Pulp therapy treats the problem at its source, relieves your child’s discomfort, and lets the tooth stay right where it belongs until nature is ready to replace it.

What pulp therapy involves

We keep the whole process gentle, clear, and comfortable. Here is how we care for the tooth.

A gentle exam and X-ray

Dr. Sara examines the tooth and reviews an X-ray to understand how deep the decay or injury reaches, then explains what she sees in simple terms.

Comfortable numbing

We gently numb the area using comfort focused, pain free techniques, so your child stays relaxed and does not feel discomfort during treatment.

Careful treatment of the pulp

Dr. Sara removes the affected nerve tissue, gently cleans the area, and soothes the tooth. Depending on how far the decay has reached, this may be a pulpotomy, which treats part of the pulp, or a pulpectomy, which treats more of it.

A protective crown

To keep the treated tooth strong and sealed, we usually finish by placing a crown. This protects the tooth so it can do its job until it is naturally replaced.

The Sensory Smiles difference

Every visit should feel calm, not overwhelming. As the sensory inclusive certified pediatric practice families across Rancho Cucamonga trust, we designed each part of the experience around your child’s comfort. Whether your child is an anxious toddler, a curious teen, or a child with sensory sensitivities or special needs, we meet them exactly where they are.

How we keep your child calm and comfortable

A baby root canal may sound intimidating, but we make it feel manageable for your child. We explain everything in friendly language, let your child feel in control, and use distraction and comfort tools to ease any nerves. Ceiling mounted TVs, headphones, and a calm pace all help.

Dr. Sara reads your child’s cues and pauses for breaks whenever they need one. Best of all, pulp therapy relieves the pain that deep decay causes, so most kids leave feeling far better than when they arrived.

Signs your child may
need pulp therapy

Pulp therapy is often the right step when a cavity has grown deep or a tooth has been injured. Watch for a lingering toothache, sensitivity to hot or cold that does not fade, swelling or a small bump on the gum, or a tooth that has darkened after a fall.

If your child has any of these signs, bring them in soon. The earlier we treat the tooth, the more comfortable your child will be and the better the chance of saving the tooth.

First-visit parent
First dental visit for my little one and I was super anxious, more than for my own appointments. Dr. Sara came in, examined his teeth, and gave us great tips to help improve his care at home. She was so patient, with no judgment at all. Dr. Sara was amazing.
Mom of a nervous patient
My youngest daughter is traumatized from a previous dental office, and all of the staff was so patient and kind with her. Dr. Sara was gentle and talked my daughter through her whole treatment. I highly recommend them.

Frequently asked questions

It is similar in idea, which is why people often call it a baby root canal. It treats the affected nerve inside a baby tooth so the tooth can stay healthy and in place until it is naturally replaced.

No. We gently numb the tooth first and use comfort focused techniques throughout. Because the treatment relieves the pain of deep decay, most kids feel much better afterward.

Baby teeth hold space for adult teeth and support chewing and speech. Saving the tooth helps your child’s smile develop properly and prevents crowding and other issues later.

Usually, yes. A crown protects and seals the treated tooth so it stays strong and does its job until it is naturally ready to come out.

A pulpotomy treats the upper part of the pulp, while a pulpectomy treats more of it. Dr. Sara chooses the right approach based on how far the decay or injury has reached.

Absolutely. As a sensory inclusive certified practice, we tailor every visit to your child’s comfort, with a quiet room, headphones, and a gentle, unhurried approach.
